History
The Villagers Swim Team was organized in the late 1970s by Maxine Shafer and Marge Hudock. In 1978 Pitsy Buren of Village Place and Peggy Russell of Country Village co-chaired the growing team that held practices at the Village Place and Country Village community pools. The team moved to a leadership arrangement of five board members with specific positions (president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, and team representative. Board members Jim Fasti served as President and Peggy Russell as Vice President. The Villagers swam against teams that later became the Bayou Swim League, including Lakeside Estates, Walnut Bend and Briargrove Park.
The team's interest in league participation grew and board members reached out to neighboring communities to investigate options. Early in 1979 the Villagers joined the teams of Ashford South, Ashford West, and South Briar to develop the new Westheimer Swim League. The Villagers participated in invitational meets against Sherwood Oaks and Nottingham that were part of the Westside Swim League. After two seasons, in 1981, the Westheimer Swim League dissolved and merged with the Westside Swim League including the teams of Nottingham Forest, Deerfield Village, Sherwood Oaks, and Lakewood Village.
After 38 years, the Westside Swim League dissolved and the Briar Forest Swim League was developed. The Villager Piranhas, Ashford Whales, and South Briar Barracudas moved to the new league and swam their first season in the summer of 2019. The Briarhills Dolphins moved from the West Houston Aquatic League to the Briar Forest Swim League. This change was to allow the league to expand to four teams while competing with more neighboring communities in the Energy Corridor area.
