About Us

The Villagers Swim Team is a fun and competitive summer swim team that was established in the 1970s. All practices and meets take place during the months of May and June, but hard working parents volunteer year round to manage the team.  The purpose of the League is to sponsor competitive and developmental swimming in and between swim teams of the League.  We are one of four teams that make up the League, which consists of the Villager Piranhas, South Briar Barracudas, Ashford Whales, and Briarhills Dolphins.

Villagers is open to residents of April Village, Country Village, Heathwood, Epernay, Lakeview Forest, Village Place, Village West, and Woods of Lakeside. Ashford is open to residents  of Ashford Forest, Ashford Lake, and Ashford South. South Briar is open to residents of South Briar, Ashford Village, Southlake, Shadowbriar, and Ashford Hollow. Briarhills is open to residents of Briarhills, Oaks of Parkway, Meadow Briar, Terraces on Memorial, Parkway Villages or Lakes of Parkway. If you live west of Dairy Ashford, south of Westheimer, east of Wilcrest, north of Buffalo Bayou and are new to the league, you are in "open territory" and can choose the team you want to join.

Swimmers are eligible to participate up to the age of 18 and they must be able to swim 25 yards freestyle in 75 seconds or less to compete in a meet.  The coaches do not expect the swimmers to be experts, but they must be familiar and comfortable with the water.  We offer a program called the Jr. Piranhas for younger and less experienced children.  Those children must be able to swim a few freestyle strokes on their own in order to start Jr. Piranhas.  If your swimmer does not meet the 25 yards in 75 seconds requirement to participate in meets, parents may choose to allow their Jr. Piranhas to continue to practice with the team to improve their swimming skills.  Before any swimmer gets in the water, parents must sign an indemnification agreement (waiver) and have completed the registration process.

The Coach In Training Program is offered to our most responsible swimmers that have completed grade 9.  Invitations to C.I.T.s will be extended following an application process and interview. C.I.T.s assist the coaches with swim practices, teach swim strokes and provide one-on-one swim instruction to children ages 4 to 10 years old of varying skill level.  C.I.T.s are motivated, enthusiastic and responsible swimmers who are dedicated to the Villagers Swim Club.  They show a positive attitude towards every swimmer and the team itself.

All age group practices will be led by our coaches at the Village Place Pool.  Age groups are determined by the age of the swimmer on May 31 of the current swim season.  Villagers practice every weekday afternoon and Saturday mornings during the month of May.  Once school is out, practice will take place every morning except Sundays throughout the month of June.  There is no practice on meet days, but all swimmers have the opportunity to warm up prior to start of the meet.  The length of practice varies from 45 minutes to one hour and times are determined by the age of the swimmer.

Villagers is a non-profit organization run by wonderful parent volunteers. Parents must participate in the running of the meets.  Each Monday dual meet lasts about 5 hours (from 2:30 pm until approximately 8:00 pm) and the work is split into two shifts.  Saturday meets lasts about 5 hours (from 9 am to approximately 1 pm).  We will have two Monday dual meets, a Saturday 8 & under meet, a Saturday relay meet, and a two-day Championship meet on the last Friday and Saturday of the season.  Please check the calendar for meet dates.

Online registration opens April 1 and continues until the end of May.  A volunteer commitment is required with registration.  We are happy to help you find a roll that fits your schedule.  All parents, regardless of the age of their child, need to assist with the home swim meets for a successful season.  There are many jobs available to meet the parent volunteer commitment.
